Diet in Gout Cases
There are many reason that can cause a gout. The main risk factor in a gout case is the levels of uric acid that one has in his/ her body. This increased levels can be cause by many factors, and diet is one of those.
Certain types of foods have in their composition purine. These compounds are known to rise the levels of uric acid. In turn, uric acid is what cause a gout. So, if you stop eating such foods, or at least try to reduce the number, then you can prevent gout attacks. Here is a list of foods that are high in purine, thus leading to gout: bouillon, brains, goose, sardines, dried vegetables, shrimp, heart, liver and many others. These are just some of the foods to avoid if suffering form a gout, or if you are one of those people susceptible to a gout. Furthermore, alcohol is also known to do a lot of damage in gout cases. Try to avoid as much as possible drinking alcohol, especially beer, if you want to lower the number of gout flares. If you can avoid the purine foods and alcohol, you will surely feel a difference in the number of gout flares, as well as in the gout signs. Levels of uric acid can also be risen by sugar and fructose. So if you want to control your gout case, then try to avoid them as well.
Cherry juice or cherries is also good for preventing gout flares. So eat at least a half pound of these fruits to better manage your gout. It does not matter what kind of cherries you eat. All cherries are beneficial in gout cases. Cherry juice is also believed to be very good in relieving some of the gout symptoms, although this has not been proven yet. So as you can see, this tiny fruit can do a world of good in your gout case. There are also some other changes that you have to make if suffering from gout. Besides the dietary modification that you should do, some lifestyle changes must be done as well.
So, as you can see, medication is not the only way to go if suffering from a gout. Some people even say that drugs are not so very useful in gout cases. Because gout is a condition that has long lasting effects, other "treatments " must be used besides medication.

The following suggestions do not meet with universal approval among medical practitioners.
Low purine diet :
To lower uric acid:
cherries have been shown to reduce uric acid
strawberries or blueberries (and other dark red/blue berries) are also reputed to be beneficial
celery extracts (celery or celery seed either in capsule form or as a tea) is believed by many to reduce uric acid levels (although these are also diuretics).
limit food high in protein such as meat, fish, poultry, or tofu to 8 ounces a day. Avoid entirely during a flare up.
Food to avoid:
foods high in purines
sweetbreads, kidneys, liver, brains, or other offal meats
sardines
anchovies
scallops, prawns, and crabs
alcohol. Some claim that this applies especially to beer, on the basis that brewer's yeasts are very rich in purine. In view of the fact that most beer contains no yeast, this claim requires substantiation. Others claim that red wine is particularly bad for gout, though again it is difficult to find an explanation. Alcohol may also reduce the rate of uric acid excretion.
meat extracts, consommés, and gravies
diet sodas (these act as diuretics in many people, causing uric acid to concentrate in the blood which can then easily precipitate)
To avoid dehydration:
Drink plenty of liquids, especially water, to dilute and assist excretion of urates;
Use sparingly diuretic foods or medicines like aspirin, vitamin C, tea and alcohol.
Folklore has it that Joe-Pye weed flushes uric acid quickly, but continued use can damage the liver or kidneys
Another folk remedy is the use of oenomel, a drink with honey and unfermented grape juice.
Moderate intake of purine-rich vegetables is not associated with increased gout (Choi et al 2004)

Sorry to hear about the gout.
For lifestyle and dietary management, I would consult a Registered Dietician and also ask your physician for dietary recommendations. Alternatively, check out "gout" related websites for diet recommendations.
One key thing to know is that you are *really* going to have to cut down on your protein intake and decrease your daily 'stress level' to manage your gout effectively.
Good luck!

too much of anything is bad. whatever it is you're eating, only eat it maybe 2-3 times a week, and don't gorge on it. my personal cycle:
1. rice and other high carbs: 1 per day
2. meals low in fiber: 1 per week
3. fiber supplements: 3 times a week.
4. salad: as part of a larger meal, 2-3 times a week, as a meal in itself, 1/week.
5. hot dogs, pizza and other high cal/low nutrient food: 2/week.
